Cornerstone's "Claim to Frame"

"When it came time to build our new home onto an existing cottage we interviewed five contractors. Cornerstone Building Systems "can-do" attitude came across. This home was built as though the individuals were building their own homes. We never felt that short cuts were taken to increase the project margin."

Robert & Sharon M - Geneva, Florida

Cornerstone Building Systems is committed to its policy of “Quality Work at a Fair Price with an Honest Guarantee” and we want to be your builder of choice with our Timbercraft Buildings.  In addition to providing you with a quality building product, it is also our intention to provide a quality business experience that includes straight forward and positive communication without unnecessary hype or exaggeration.

The quality of the components and methods used to construct a typical Timbercraft Building may not be available or are considered more expensive options with other building companies.  So before you decide on any building company please get the facts that are necessary to make an educated decision.

Who's REALLY #1?

Many claim to be “The Best”, “The Finest” or the “The #1 Choice” so who really is?  Consider a typical 36’ wide x 48’ long x 12’ eave height clear span building:

Foundation

Timbercraft: Included

Others: Optional

Our typical, below-grade concrete footing foundation is a necessary and included component.  It is not optional as with other buildings and is designed to provide adequate wind load protection for our buildings.

Roof & Wall Panels

Timbercraft: Heavier & Stronger 26-Gauge Thickness

Others: Thinner & Weaker 29-Gauge Thickness

Our typical 26-gauge metal roof and wall panels, considered an extra charge option by other building companies are installed with screw fasteners, coated with a 30-year galvalume substrate and a 40-year premium paint finish. This application provides for increased strength, durability, structural integrity and wind load protection over the thinner, 29-gauge type panels that are commonly used and sometimes nail-fastened by other post frame building companies.

Bay Spacing

Timbercraft: 4 Wider Bays Spaced @ 12'

Others: 6 Narrower Bays Spaced @ 8’

Our typical doubled truss, roof framing design offers more rigidity than the single truss methods of other buildings and it also enables a wider, standard bay spacing as well. This provides for a less obstructed interior framing environment, additional clearance plus wider overhead storage possibilities between roof framing members and wider exterior door possibilities at our side walls.

Roof Framing

Timbercraft: 10 Trusses

Others: 7 Trusses

Roof Purlins

Timbercraft: 2 X 6 For 5½” Wind-Load Protection

Others: 2 X 4 For 3½” Wind-Load Protection

Our typical roof purlin and wall girt framing materials are #2 grade southern yellow pine and not the #3 grade southern yellow pine or spruce that some other building companies use. This material provides a greater measure of structural integrity. They are sized as 2 x 6 in lieu of the 2 x 4 size used for other common building types. These larger 2 x 6 members provide greater strength and rigidity than smaller 2 x 4 members. Our roof purlins are typically installed with a lapped connection in lieu of a butt connection.  This also provides for a stronger, more rigid connection at these areas as well.

Purlin Blocks

Timbercraft: 4 X 6

Others: None

Our typical 4 x 6 purlin and truss blocking, as compared to the 2 x 6 method commonly used by other builders, provides for superior truss stiffening, purlin connections and overall structural integrity.

Structural Columns

Timbercraft: (10) 6 X 6 Solid Sawn Pt

Other: (14) Triple 2 X 6 PT and SYP Nailed Together

Our typical solid sawn, continuous length, pressure treated columns provide comparable and continuous strength in each direction. Because they are solid sawn, their structural integrity is not reliant on boards that are nailed or glued together.

Wall Girts

Timbercraft: Shelved 2 X 6 For 5½” Wind-Load Protection

Others: Flat 2 X 4 For 1½” Wind-Load Protection

Our typical roof purlin and wall girt framing materials are #2 grade southern yellow pine and not the #3 grade southern yellow pine or spruce that some other building companies use. This material provides a greater measure of structural integrity. Our wall girts can be over 3½ times wider than other common methods thus providing superior wind load protection. This is attributed to our 5½” wide “shelved” girt system with metal connectors in lieu of the more common 1½” wide “flat” girt system with nail connectors used by other building companies.

Baseboards

Timbercraft: 2 X 8 Pt

Others: 2 X 6 Pt

HOW A GOOD PLAN COMES TOGETHER

  • SOLID SAWN PT COLUMNS: Sized to meet Load Requirements, Treated for Below-Ground Use with Comparable Strength in Each Direction.
  • MONOLITHIC TYPE CONCRETE FOUNDATION: Two Rows of Continuous #5 Rebar Reinforcement with One Row Installed Through Columns for Increased Uplift Protection.
  • COLLAR TYPE CONCRETE FOUNDATION OPTION: Individual Footings Poured Around Column with Two #5 Rebar Spikes, One Each Way Through Columns for Increased Uplift Protection.
  • PT BASEBOARDS: 2 X 8 Nominal Width to Minimize Concrete Spillage at Bottoms of Footings and Treated for Ground-Contact Use.
  • SHELVED WALL GIRTS: Greater Wind Load and Fire Blocking Capabilities with Minimal or No Additional Framing Costs Required to Prep for Interior Wall Finishes.
  • “DOUBLED” TRUSS & RAFTER SYSTEM: “Sandwich-Type” Column Connections with Hot-Dip Galvanized Lag and/or Bolt Fasteners.
  • 12’ AND 10’ STANDARD BAY SPACINGS WITH 4X PURLIN BLOCKS AND LAPPED PURLIN CONNECTIONS: Increased Top Chord and Roof Purlin Support, Minimizes Splitting at Framing Connections & Provides for Flexible Bay Spacing.
